The Bloor Cinema screens the well-reviewed kiddy flick Wall-E several times during the week, as well as Soul Masters: Dr. Guo and Dr. Sha. The latter is a documentary about a Chinese doctor and "the revolutionary discovery" that "everything has a soul, and the soul can heal."
The Annex Wreck Room at Bathurst and Bloor is kicking off IndieCan Wednesdays on the 17th with bands Sidhara, Painted Birds and The Febryarys.
The Tranzac features The Jessica Stuart Few Tuesday at 7:30 pm ($5 or PWYC), along with many other acts throughout the week.
ROMwalks does a little navel gazing and leads a walk around the ROM and its Neighbours on Sunday. The free walk starts at 2 pm and participants meet on the steps of the museum.
Clinton's hosts Freehand Books party as it celebrates its first year in print on Wednesday. There will be readings by authors Marina Endicott, Saleema Nawaz, Susan Olding and Jeanette Lyons and things get underway at 7:30 pm.

What's Happening
Grand Parade with singer Sarah Jerrom, plays jigs and reels at the Tranzac's Southern Cross Lounge on Saturday, just one night in a jam-packed schedule.
The Annex Wreck Room at Bathurst and Bloor hosts the Governor's Bash Metal/Comedy Showcase Saturday night featuring lots of metal music.
$12 will get in you in to Lee's Palace tomorrow to see Montreal duo Handsome Furs.
The Bloor Cinema features some interesting older movies in the next week as far-ranging as Batman: The Movie from 1966 to a new 35mm print of Francois Truffaut's The 400 Blows on Tuesday. Time Magazine said the latter "defined the French New Wave for the world."
Only singletons from 21 to 39 are welcome to attend Fastlife's Annual Little White Lie event at Lobby on Bloor, west of Avenue Road.
"Themed around the Little White Lies we all tell, [the party] boasts fabulous draw prizes, cheeky lying games, Lady Lie (our human lie detector – dishing out penalty shots upon lie detection) and so much more."
Participants wear -- what else? -- white. Things get underway at 8 pm and tickets are $25.
This Friday from 6 to 8 pm, attend the Open Clay Studio at the Gardiner Museum on Queen's Park Circle to try your hand at working with clay. Sunday from 1 pm to 3 pm is available, too --just get there 30 minutes prior to buy your $10 ticket.

This Sunday is a PS Sunday in Mirvish Village -- no cars and lots of fun. August 10th promises to "highlight the visual arts and the community artists who call Mirvish Village home."
The Spadina Public Library features a children's Laugh Out Loud Party with silly stories and games on Wednesday the 13th at 10:30 a.m.
There's an intriguing sounding show at the Tranzac, Things I Have Found And How They Got There, on Saturday at 8 pm. Tickets are $12.
I didn't know that there was an all-female Toronto Roller Derby League until I saw that The Annex WreckRoom is hosting an after-derby party Saturday. Learn something new every day!
If you feel like venturing a little further afield, head south to Spadina south of College for the Toronto Chinatown Festival Saturday and Sunday. There's no info on the website (?), but a flyer says that it runs Saturday from 11 am to 8 pm and Sunday til 6 pm.
The usual suspects hold their weekend events, of course, including the ROM and the Bata Shoe Museum.

Bloor Cinema has the Summer Toronto Film Challenge results Friday at 7 pm. Admission is $12.
As well, the Toronto premiere of Stuck runs throughout the week. Starring Mena Suvari and Stephen Rea, it's billed as being firmly in the gallows humour category.
Wisconsin singer-songwriter Bon Iver is at Lee's Palace Tuesday. Tickets are $14.
Dr. David Tal, a gerontology specialist, will be at the MilesNadalJCC June 17th at 1:30 pm to present Heart and Mind: Promoting Health and Preventing Disability. It's $2 (free for members), and includes coffee and a bagel. For more information, contact Phyllis Fien, phyllisf@mnjcc.org.

What's Happening
The Tranzac Club on Brunswick, just south of Bloor, has a jam-packed schedule, including the free-of-charge Jamzac's Open Acoustic Jam in the Southern Cross Lounge at 3 pm on Saturday.
Kaolin Designs on Dupont St (west of Bathurst) is having its Annual Canada Day Sale from Tues July 1 to Sun July 6. Prices for Patricia O'Brien's pottery will be reduced by 25 % and there'll be great deals on William Roddy's furniture, as well as tin toys, artist jigsaw puzzles and clocks.
The Black Angels and The Warlocks play Lee's Palace tonight. Tickets are $11.50.
The Bloor Cinema has an 11:30 pm screening of the Rocky Horror Picture Show Friday night. Does that ever bring back memories....
At The Central in Mirvish Village, pop singer Karen Kosowski takes the stage Friday at 9:30 pm.
Once in awhile I remind you about 1,001 Friday Nights of Storytelling. It's a bit further afield (Innis College Cafe at Sussex and St. George), but close enough to merit mention. Howard Kaplan is scheduled to host this Friday. It runs from 8 pm to 10:30 pm and the suggested donation is $5.
Next Thursay, July 3rd Bill Gladstone will be at the MilesNadalJCC presenting Jewish Toronto: Sunshine on Spadina. The cost is $2 (free for people 55+ and members).

In addition to a full slate of musical acts, The Tranzac Club on Brunswick is hosting its first ever Garage Sale on Saturday. The doors open at 8 am. What would a club have for sale? "Musical instruments, televisions, random pieces of sound equipment, chalk boards, scrap wood, pieces of metal, clothing and so much more!!!"
Over at the Miles Nadal JCC, the Avenue Roads Art School presents Urinetown: The Musical with two performances on Saturday. Tickets are $15.
On Sunday, there's Cooking With Itka Lunches For Kids. From 1 to 3 pm you can "taste nutritious kid-friendly lunches" and "take home innovative recipes." Cost is $18 per person or $36 per family.
Sunday is also the day for the Jewish Mosaic Festival, which is packed with events ranging from a youth basketball tournament, to a Jewish Antiques Road Show to culinary demonstrations. Free admission and parking.
Then, on Wednesday night it's the MJNCC Community Choir Concert at 8 pm in the Al Green Theatre. Tickets are $10 per person/$20 per family.
Canadian new wave band Blue Peter plays Lee's Palace Friday night. Tickets are $17.50.
Justin Rutledge and opening act Melissa McClelland play at Trinity-St. Paul's tomorrow night at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $18.
Three Operas in One Hour takes place at The Walmer Centre on Lowther Friday and Saturday at 8:30 pm. Presented by Toronto Chamber Opera Productions, tickets are $15 and $10.

What's Happening
The Tranzac Club on Brunswick is usually busy seven nights a week and this week is no exception. Saturday night the club hosts LIVESTOCK, a Farm Sanctuary fundraiser. Admission is Pay What You Can and it promises to start at 6 pm and end at 2 am.
The Miles NadalJCC at Spadina and Bloor hosts some screenings for the Canadian Sport Film Festival this weekend. The first write up I looked at, for Bad Boys of Summer, sounded fascinating:
"This film follows the charismatic coach of the San Quentin Giants through his final season with the prison baseball program, as he tries to change the lives of the men on his team. Be [sic] peeling back the layers of their dark personal histories, he reveals their inner core as human beings. In the process, he puts a startling new face on America’s national pastime."
On Tuesday, May 20th, author Harold Troper will be at the MNJCC to discuss "the story behind the book None Is Too Many." No start time is listed, but it's free for members and $8 for non-members.
You'll find the Toronto Hispano-American Film Festival at the Bloor Cinema from the 15th to the 25th.
Apparently, there is a clean up scheduled for Ecology Park on Madison Avenue just north of Bloor EVERY Saturday from 9 am to 11 am. Check with the Annex Residents Association for more details.

Devoted to the pipe organ, the Organix08 Festival continues with organ soloist Gordon Mansell performing Paris, C'est Magnifique featuring the works of Parisian composers. The $7.50 tickets can be ordered online and the concert is slated for Wednesday at 6 pm at Church of the Redeemer, 162 Bloor St. W., the quaint edifice with stunning views of the ROM and Queen's Park Circle.
Part of Toronto Poetry Slam, Rochdale Rhymes and Readings with host Mike Lipsius takes place Sunday at the Regal Beagle, 335 Bloor St. W. at 8 pm. Admission is "pass the hat." (The venue is within spitting distance of Toronto's infamous Rochdale College, which I assume inspired the name of the reading.)
The Bata Shoe Museum is offering a free screening of Le Roi Danse May 21 from 6 to 8:30 pm. It complements the museum's current exhibit On Pointe, which features ballet shoes. Here's the details:

CommunityAIR Fundraiser and Dance
One hot, sticky summer day, DH came home with a mask that he needed to use in order to breathe when he rode his bike. He has asthma.
Then we had an asthma scare with DD.
And, to top it off, my elderly mother has become a virtual prisoner in the house during those lung-melting summer days that we all are so fond of...
All of it lead me to CommunityAIR, a grassroots organization lobbying to improve Hogtown's air quality. Judging from their website, the members seem to be focusing on closing the Island Airport these days.
Well, the group is holding a fundraiser and dance on Thursday, April 24th and it's at The Tranzac, which is on Brunswick, just south of Bloor. Rolling-home distance, as it were.
