You can do it online and it's cheap and easy.
Also, if your fluffy friend goes missing, the license will help with identification.
There's additional rules about cats, too. For instance they CAN go outside, but they CAN'T be a nuisance.
Not that my cats go out much in this frigid weather.... in fact, one of them is developing a deep, personal relationship with the heat vents this winter. (Yep, that's her!)
If you don't license your cat, you can be issued a $240 ticket, but it's my understanding that this only happens if someone complains. If things get out of control (think "crazy cat lady") you can be taken to court and be issued a $5,000 fine.
BTW, something that was news to me and that was on the renewal form: you can have a maximum of six animals at a time in T.O., including cats, dogs, rabbits and ferrets, and no more than three can be dogs. Who knew?
