"TIME-SENSITIVE INFORMATION REGARDING PROPOSED TOXIC CHEMICAL POLICIES IN TORONTO:
Your voice is urgently needed to help create a safer and healthier neighbourhood.
A new environmental initiative, which will track and help reduce toxic chemicals in our community, is currently being finalized. Before this happens, we need your help to make sure it's designed to help you.
Please read the attached consultation document by Toronto Public Health and answer three simple questions. Then submit your responses online to City Hall through the link provided: http://www.toronto.ca/health/hphe/enviro_info.htm
Known as a Community Right to Know (CRTK) bylaw, this initiative will once again make Toronto a leader by becoming the first Canadian jurisdiction to track toxic pollutants. The bylaw will be considered by City Council this spring.
Reducing Toxics in Toronto
Right now, 80% of toxic chemicals released into Toronto's air are not reported and many of these carcinogens and harmful substances are used by local businesses and manufacturers located in communities like yours, such as dry cleaners, auto body shops and printing companies.
Toronto needs a bylaw that provides the public with information on location sources and health effects of toxic chemicals in their community. The bylaw aims to track, measure and ultimately reduce toxic chemicals in your neighbourhood. For more information about this initiative or to schedule a presentation for your neighbourhood association by the Toronto Environmental Alliance please visit http://www.secrecyistoxic.ca/.
As your Councillor, I support this initiative and believe information and an engaged public are vital to successful neighbourhoods and stronger environmental policies. Please read the attached report and answer the questions, submit your responses by February 6th and distribute this email as widely as possible.
If you don't have time to read the report in detail, even a letter of support for the initiative to myself and the Mayor will go a long way in letting us know you support the community's right to know. "
For a copy of the report contact Adam Vaughan's office using the link to your right.
