For years we've watched reincarnations of JJ Muggs (the last being JJ Albany's, I believe) cycle through the large retail space at the corner of Albany Avenue on the north side of Bloor.
Then the primo retail location sat empty for the longest time. Occasionally hoarding would go up, only to come down again a few months later.
Well, last summer, activity picked up again and when word hit the street that another coffee shop was opening, I thought whaaa....? After all, two of the other corners at this intersection feature -- you guessed it -- coffee shops.
But as soon as Israel-based chain Aroma Espresso opened its doors, it was packed and it's been packed every time I walk by, no matter the time of day or night.
I must admit, I go there myself, having claimed it as my new gathering spot with friends after the sad and abrupt loss of Urban Annex awhile ago.
Others frequent it for the free WiFi -- judging by the number of laptops --the great coffee and the scrummy looking breakfasts. Not sure about the lunches.
The coffee, of course, is excellent and they have a bracing and lovely mint tea, too.
Cheers,
Vanessa
