This in not neighbourhood-related, so let's file it under Webstites We Love... SaveOurNet.ca is devoted to keeping the Internet a level playing field that is NOT dominated by large corporations.
Personally, I love the wide-open, frontier, "anything goes" nature of the 'net.
The issue in a nutshell: "The coalition formed in response to internet throttling and other anti-competitive actions of some of Canada's large telecom companies like Bell Canada.
SaveourNet.ca coalition co-founder Matt Thompson explains, “Bell throttling ISPs is an early skirmish in a larger battle over the future of Canada's Internet.
What's at stake is the open platform that has produced so much innovation, entrepreneurship and new media for Canadians. Ottawa needs to protect that vital economic interest -- not let a monopoly of utility companies choke it off for their own short-term benefit.”
You can sign the online petition if you feel strongly about the issue.
Cheers,
Vanessa
