Haven't dusted off that ROM membership card in a while? A couple weeks back, I took a trip to the ROM with my 8 and 10 year old to check out the new crystal. I didn't have great expectations since I hadn't heard many raves about the ROM reno. In the museum, we accidentally came upon one of the Sunday "pied piper" tours. On this family oriented tour a musician played a different flute based on the exhibit being presented at a given point in the tour. The tour was interesting and well presented; I would tag along again with or without kids. On the fourth floor of the crystal, I enjoyed the whale carcass made of plastic chairs by Canadian sculptor, Brian Jugen. Brian Jugen's sculpture is incredible and makes a powerful statement about the environment and culture.
After the ROM, we cruised down Bloor a bit and a well-dressed grandmotherly woman approached us and insisted that my children make me buy them a Godiva hot chocolate. Sounds strange, but she was really sweet. Well, we all thought the hot chocolate was like nothing else we had ever tasted; amazing!
