What's Happening

The Bloor Cinema will host Generation DIY the 19th through the 22nd. CinemaEye calls it "an unlikely assembly of films by a collection of American filmmakers who are young, ambitious, and broke" and "the first movement in American cinema since Jim Jarmusch and Richard Linklater stood behind the lens."

Acoustic guitar/drums duo Polyester Heart plays the The Tranzac tonight, just one act in the usual jam-packed schedule.

Also tonight, the Annex Wreckroom is the venue for PunkAid IV. It's billed as a benefit for Sick Kids hospital and kicks off at 7 pm. Acts include The Groopies, The Mahones and BS101.

Speaking of kicking off, tomorrow is the start of Pride Week in Toronto and the MilesNadalJCC will host a screening of Jerusalem is Proud to Present at 7:30 pm on Wednesday.
And I quote: "This outspoken documentary follows the astonishing events leading up to The World Pride Conference in Jerusalem in the summer of 2006. Planning was disrupted by anonymous threats and stalled by politicians."
There's a discussion after, the event is free, but tickets only are available at the door after 6:30 pm.

Clinton's hosts the Art Bar Poetry Series every Tuesday. On the 24th, the poets featured are David Day, Mel Sarnese and Lee Maracle. Readings get underway at 8 pm and admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

Text and the City: The Fictionista Reading Series takes place at the Victory Cafe in Mirvish Village. Four "fabulous women writers" look at sex, relationships and travel. It's free and it begins at 7 p.m. tonight.

I already BLOGged about the The BIG On Bloor Festival, which will close Bloor Street West from Christie Pits Park over to Lansdowne Avenue to cars and will fill the road with buskers, live music and a sit-down pot luck dinner. The free festival runs Saturday from 1 pm to 9 pm.
