Blue Bin Hysteria

Blue bin hysteria is gripping Toronto and presumably the Annex will be caught up in the storm of opposition to the gi-normous recycling bins left on the front lawns of homes over the past few days. The Globe and Mail ran an interesting article about the situation, the absurdity and the perks. It will work for our family just fine, but unlike many in our neighbourhood, we are unattached with a good bit of space separating us from the house to the south. Today, I caught the gist of a conversation between a robed elderly woman in her slippers on Albany chatting with a neighbour about her giant, rolling bin and the negotiation process that took place with the family next door since both bins would not fit between the houses. If you have a question or concern about the new blue bins, like, "What do I do with my old bin?" (Take them to a drop-off depot.), then go on-line to the City of Toronto Blue Bin Information site and get the answers. Happy Recycling.

My main concern with the bins is how people in wheelchairs or with strollers will get around on garbage day. Not that the city cares much about people with wheelchairs and strollers, judging by our sidewalks in the winter.
