Robert Street Rink and Parkette

Do you have fond memories of skating at the Robert Street Rink when it was operating? It wasn't that long ago and it is a shame that it has "disappeared" from our neighbourhood landscape. For some reason, the rink, which is owned by the University of Toronto, is no longer being cared for; I have heard various reports and the reoccurring theme seems to be a refrigeration problem. I had heard that neighbours were doing floods at one point, but this seems to have stopped.

There is so much potential with regard to the rink, the playing field and the parkette that in this time of land scarcity downtown, I really don't understand how this opportunity for a community recreational space can be wasted. In a note from Councillor Vaughan he indicated that it would take an enormous effort from UofT, City Parks, the neighbourhood and the Dominion Store to make something happen here. He also indicated that there is the possibility of Section 37 money with regard to the Parkette.

Looking for some movers and shakers with vision at UofT who can make something happen here! If you have any further information on this situation, please let us know.
