The Dubrovnik Community Looks for Support

I know this might seem off-topic in terms of our Annex community, but my cousin who has been writing about the conflict in the Balkans for several years, sent me the following note. Looking outward to another community, if you are so inclined, offer your support.

Dear Friends,
As many of you know, I'm camping in Dubrovnik for a few months finishing a book. I've seen some pretty reckless behavior by the local powers that threatens to destroy much of the beauty of Old Dubrovnik as we all know it and cherish it. A group of local people is attempting to reach out to Dubrovnik lovers around the world to prevent further damage. This is not an anti-development group, it is a group of concerned citizens who are attempting to stop the local authorities from basically ravaging the area around the Old Town mainly for their own benefit. So far, Dubrovnik has been spared the rat-race development that has made wonderful coastlines near Split and all along the Adriatic Coast of Montenegro into a long sad string of eyesores, not unlike what has happened to so much of Greece and Crete and Turkey. It should not happen to this, our Pearl of the Adriatic -- for that is what being declared a UNESCO heritage site means, Dubrovnik belongs to all of us.

If you care about keeping this beautiful little corner of the world beautiful, please sign this petition. I will appreciate it, and my friends here will appreciate it, and future generations will appreciate it, I'm sure.

Allbest,

Please send me more specific information (in English) about this problem in Dubrovnik. I am most interested in publicizing it.
