I took this in the large hall at Ellis Island in New York Harbor where immigrants used to line up for hours and hours to gain entry to the US.It was designed to be grand and imposing to the many "poor, huddled masses."
My paternal grandparents emigrated from Europe to live in New York and it felt strange to be in the room where they likely had stood so many years ago.
